Meme of the Week: You Can’t Sprawl Your Way Out of the Land Crisis

Context:

This meme was inspired by this section of the article “What happens when America’s Monopoly board fills up?” by Lars Doucet. Simply put, the access to cheap land near city centers caused by the car isn’t available like it once was, and alongside booming land prices there has also come massive amounts of sprawl. Going further, this is all heavily exacerbated by land speculation and overly restrictive land use laws keeping us from using this finite resource as we need to.

The problem of land (or more particularly locations) being non-produced will continue to appear, and frontiers are a band-aid to it. The best way for everyone in society to have access to it is to require those who own it to compensate the rest of society and to untax society’s work and investment with it (alongside taxing/mitigating other monopolistic assets).
