Meme of the Week: Taxes as They Should’ve Been

Context:

Here’s the other Georgist meme post using this template which inspired this meme

Taxes should’ve been levied on land and other monopolistic assets instead of people’s work, investment, and trade.

When I say monopolistic, I mean it in the sense that nobody can produce more of that asset to compete with incumbents. Land is the biggest example (which leads to terms like “land monopoly“) but it can also be used to describe other things like owning other finite natural resources, patents/copyrights, naturally monopolistic infrastructure, and the like.

Of course, for artificial monopolies like IP we can just opt to mitigate/eliminate their monopoly power, but we can’t do the same for something like land and nature; which is why their annual rental value should be taxed instead. For natural monopolies, we can also have them be publicly owned or publicly auctioned off and their annual monopoly value be returned to society directly.
